Couldn’t disagree harder. I’ve seen vendor lock-in with these large solutions prevent giants from gaining benefits that they could have otherwise had if they were more flexible and nimble with their architecture. If a business is growing you want that flexibility to pivot if things aren’t working. Vendor lock in would prevent that and be far more detrimental and prove to be fatal to start ups who can’t adapt to the needs of the business. It’s this thinking that destroys data engineering efforts and leads to “safe” decisions that end up yielding no value.
